PHILANTHROPY
Our members put on a philanthropy event once a semester, and the one in the fall is called our “Signature Event.” This is the larger of the two events per year, and the one that we want to be an annual ATO staple. Philanthropy has been at the forefront of our efforts as a chapter since we began at LSU in the Spring of 2017; it is something that all of our members support and participate in every single semester, and it will continue to be a cornerstone of our organization—something that we take great pride and joy in.
![]() Throughout 2017-2019, the Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega at Louisiana State University was proud to sponsor Children’s Miracle Network as our chapter philanthropy. Through an event each semester, we raised money and awareness for the organization through its local hospital: Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. Through our first five events and participation in Dance Marathon at LSU, our chapter has raised over $35,000 for CMN.
In the Spring of 2019, Alpha Tau Omega’s Epsilon Zeta chapter garnered $9690 for philanthropy for the Spring 2019 semester. We had a successful giveback night at Chipotle and New York Bagel, as well as a successful main event titled Alpha Tau Omega’s Miracle Fest. The big event joined together the Louisiana State University and Baton Rouge communities as well as the friends and family members of our ATO brothers. The event took place on March 23, 2019 at the Varsity Theatre, and it featured several live band performances as well as catered food from The Chimes. All money fundraised from these events went to support the Children’s Miracle Network and Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.

In the Fall of 2017, the chapter hosted a "Restaurant Showcase,” with the intention of bringing together friends, family, and students of LSU to sample local foods from around the Baton Rouge area and listen to live music. Over 250 people attended the event and we raised more than $2300. The Restaurant Showcase was also named as the “Best IFC Philanthropic Event” of 2017 by the Order of Omega at LSU.
In the Fall of 2018, we hosted the second annual Restaurant Showcase, with the hopes of expanding on the first and solidifying a tradition that we want to continue with for years to come. We accomplished this goal by increasing our Public Relations regarding the event as well as featuring more live music and making it a tailgate for the LSU vs. Auburn game which was on the same day. 350 people were in attendance and we raised $6200, nearly tripling the dollars raised from the previous year.
Both "Restaurant Showcases" for 2017 and 2018 have been recognized with university awards as "Best IFC Philanthropic Event" for their tremendous efforts. These awards are voted by Greek Life representatives and presented at the Order of Omega awards ceremony in the Spring.
On September 8th, 2019, the Epsilon Zeta Chapter decided to take it's philanthropic efforts to a different cause. The chapter voted to support Team Gleason, a charity founded by Steve Gleason, former New Orleans Saints safety and Alpha Tau Omega alumni from Washington State. Team Gleason is committed to providing for and finding solutions for those living with ALS and other related neuromuscular diseases. Since Team Gleason’s inception, the group has had a significant impact on the lives of countless people living with ALS. While the organization has spent millions of dollars providing equipment, technology, services, care, life-changing adventures and more, the impact of the group goes well beyond its direct mission. We are excited to see our work and contributions go towards a great organization! See the link below for further details on Team Gleason.
